September 29, 2008Duane Reade, New York’s dirty and poorly serviced answer to Eckerd’s, Rite Aid, and Walgreens, spiffed up its Times Square image to fit in better with the neighbors. The blue neon comes and goes - I wasn’t able to get it when it was all lit.
Some time ago in Vegas, it surprised me to find out that neon lights are not always neon; the gasses in the tubes that make the color are either neon or argon. Argon is a gas that is also used as a cooling agent. So when you look at all the ‘neon’ in Times Square keep in mind that some of it is actually argon.
Here’s my tour guide question for the week… How did “The Deuce” become a nickname for Times Square.
